rose Happy New Years' Book Lovers

Have you made your New Years resolutions yet? Or will you just outline goals that you want to accomplish this year? I have and one is to continue to provide you with very interesting books to relax and intrigued your minds. Prioritybooks Publications wants to provide you with well written, interesting books that will keep you coming back for more. This past six months has been exciting as we continue to expand our services to authors. We have been blessed to have so many people who are experts in their fields representing our company from editing to illustrating. The many compliments we get on our work from writing to cover designs will continue to inspire us to put out the best work possible.

The New Year will celebrate new and old writers in all genres. I am continuously amazed at the many new African American authors who has captured the young generation and inspired increased reading. Even as we go into the new year with some debating on whether this reading increase is beneficial, one thing is certain reading empowers and stimulates the mind. With this we are hopeful that reading will also improve academic success in the classroom. Let's continue to encourage our children and teens to pick up a book. When possible donate extra books or those you will no longer read to various boys and girls clubs. Finally, let us continue to support our authors throughout the year and we will continue to provide you with tips on building self esteem, achieving success in the communities while taking your mind on a ride filled with fantasy, hope and love.

What is the first thing you see when you browse in a bookstore? Rows and displays of book covers! People pull books off the shelf just because the cover attracts them—sometimes before reading the title. As a writer, you want your book to be the one they reach for. After the front cover attracts a person’s attention, he or she quickly flips the book over to glance at the back cover. It needs a catchy headline, color, and layout with a few entertaining or inspiring phrases that make your reader want to open the book and look inside. What’s the next step? He or she buys the book, takes it home, reads it—and hopefully, recommends it to others!

Stacy-Deanne, International best selling author of " Divas of the New Millennium "

What inspired you to write Divas?

The concept of " Divas of the New Millennium " started with three biographies I did on the singers Mya, Jennifer Lopez and Ashanti. I never intended on doing a biography since my game is fiction but I was so interested in these singers that I decided to write about them. The books were supposed to be a part of a series I created called, " Millennium Divas of Color ". Things changed and the publisher decided to put my work with the work of two other authors who wrote bios on Alicia Keys and Destiny's Child. The compilation idea was strictly the publisher's. The company thought that including all of these ladies in one book would be amazing. At first I was disappointed to learn that my books wouldn't be separate anymore but once I read " Divas of the New Millennium " I was confident in the publisher's choice.

Did you interview the artist or did you have to seek permission to discuss them?

No we didn't interview them. I told the publisher I wanted to but he said that due to the time taken to get in touch with the artists, it wouldn't be worth it. You have to make bios as current as possible. The company didn't want to go through the hassles and since biographies are their specialty, I respected that. Plus we (the authors) had presented our books to the company with the work already at hand. No, you don't have to seek permission to write a biography. As long as you are honest and sticking to facts then there should be no problems. The publisher handles all the legal aspects during the process of the book.
